life after florida

i have returned from my vacation in florida. it was great to see my friend and spend time with her. the flights went well and all the nervous energy beforehand was seemingly wasted. since i have been home i've had little art time but here is a postcard i had started before i left and i just finished it up this morning. if you are interested in exchanging postcards there is an ongoing swap i'm hosting at the mail art world site you can check out.

flight fever

i'm trying to burn off nervous energy with my upcoming flight today. it isn't that i don't like flying but being all alone in a big airport it a little unnerving for me. so after getting all packed, running the sweeper, making a big breakfast i was still finding myself with butterflies in my stomach. i decided to go make some art to divert my attention from my stomach. here's an arch i made. it's for a private monthly trade i'm in with three of the nicest girls i know.

postcard mania

i have been productive in the postcard department the past few days. i made this one tonight in a mad dash to have some art time before leaving tomorrow for florida to visit my friend. i rarely make things that i keep for myself but after making this one i kind of like it and just may have to hold on it to for a little before deciding if i can trade it or not.

postcard

well i've been on a postcard kick lately. i'm hosting an ongoing postcard swap on the mail art world site and since i made my first one i realized how much fun making bigger art can be. it's a nice switch from making atc's for so long. this particular postcard uses some new alpha stamps rubber stamps; the mermaid, the sea weed and the seahorse. i just had to have them when i saw them.

sunday post card challenge

can you believe another sunday challenge is here already? i spent the afternoon with my dad so i didn't get to work on this postcard til tonight. this week's theme was "artist".

ode to a great man

today is father's day and i'm a lucky girl. i still get to enjoy the company of my dad. he's always been the best dad he could be. i love his sarcastic sense of humor, and for those of you who know me, know this nut didn't fall far from that tree. he's always been such a great provider and while life was never built on extravagance, you most certainly never lacked for anything. my dad was such a hard worker and i always loved to smell the saw dust when he'd come home after a day at work. to this day when i smell saw dust it just reminds me of my dad. another thing that my dad possesses that i love is you can see the light in his eye when he looks at my mom and i love that about a man. there really isn't much, except for perhaps the innocence of a child, that tops seeing the love in a man's eye. i'm so lucky, too, because i get to see that look when my dad sees me, too. no matter how old i get i always know i'm my daddy's little girl. so what a blessing it is for me to say "happy father's day, dad".

i started working on this arch a few days ago but i had to let it sit for awhile until i could figure out what the finishing touches should be. as always, i rarely know what i will create when i sit down at my art desk. i will say that i usually have one thing i want to work with, whether it is a collage image or a new rubber stamp, and then the project starts to grow from that initial inspiration. i had received a new collage sticker sheet from alpha stamps and one of the parrots reminded me of an art friend, tanya's parrot, pudge. as soon as i saw this parrot i knew i wanted to create an arch for her in honor of her beloved bird for a private swap we are doing. i am hoping that she will like it when she sees it.

watercolor madness

these watercolor arches are turning into potato chips - you can't just have one! so here is another one i made today and it's filled with doodles. there is something about doodling that just makes me happy. this arch is just basically about a house of love. my family is full of people i just adore. so this one is for all of you.

always love yourself

one of the first few entries when i started off this blog showed pictures from my "doodle journal" that i was doing, so it should come as no surprise how much doodling intrigues me. i wanted to do a few arches with watercolor to take a break from the collaged ones i've been doing. so i used some doodling on an arch for the private trade i'm in with a few other girls. i dug out my watercolors and used a technique for the background that i learned from a friend at an art weekend i was at a few months ago. some may say that i got carried away with the doodles, but really, can you ever have too many?

sunday post card challenge

there is a new site open called sunday post card art. you can visit this site at http://sundaypostcardart.wordpress.com to see what everyone else has created. my little art friend, mandy, invited me to join in this challenge. at first i wasn't sure what i would do for the first entry, which was themed "summer". as much as i love the warm weather that summer brings about i have to admit shamelessly i am deathly afraid of bees. i believe this fear came about due to being stung at the top of my steps when i was little and when i jumped and screamed i fell down the stair case. i guess i just never got over that traumatic event. so i felt it only fitting that my summer theme should be an ode to the bees.
