do i look fat?

i needed to make a postcard for a postcard challenge i am in on thursday. the theme was wings. i found this image over at flickr and fell in love with it. there is something about chubby people that makes me smile, especially chubby kids. i know it's not healthy for anyone to be chubby but it doesn't stop me from loving chubby kids. in fashion they always say if you're trying to look slimmer you shouldn't wear stripes from side to side just up and down. well i married those two things and this is what i came up with. i hope it makes you smile.

having fun

the other day i was doodling on my paper and started to make some shapes that i was hoping i could use as collage images. i used my permapaque markers. i love those markers so much i only wish they would make more colors. i had fun making thing sin bright colors as i love bright colors but for some reason i find myself using earth tones an awful lot of the time. why is that i wonder? i made this postcard using quite a few of the elements i drew.

and the winner is

thanks to all of you who left a message for the few of my favorite things postcard. today is the drawing and the winner of a printed copy is:

shades of grey journal page

here is another journal page that i am working on from pam carriker's shades of grey workshop that i am taking. i really am itching to add color! i know it's my journal and i could add color to it but the whole point of the workshop is to it in the shades of grey using the shades of grey pitt pens. i think it's probably good for my brain to take a break from color every once in a while. i love the quote on this page, so in case you can't read it to ponder on, here is what it says:

life is just a mirror, and what you see out there, you
must first see inside of you. -wally amos-

a few of my favorite things to share

those of you who really know me, know that i'm hopelessly addicted to postcards, zetti imagery, cupcakes and all things bird. i guess this postcard i made somehow managed to get all those incorportated on it....could it be the perfect postcard for me? i guess that question was rhetorical as there is no perfect piece but i do fancy it. the true test is when i go to print out copies. i love seeing how the colors come out in print and this one does manage to sing a little loud in the color department. i printed out a few copies and i'm thinking i just have to give one away, after all, what are favorite things if you can't share them, right? so leave a comment and i'll pick a name next sunday morning, march 29th, and you can help me enjoy my favorite things, too.

shades of grey

i signed up for another online workshop with pam carriker. this workshop is called shades of grey. it is a workshop using the shades of grey pitt pens. it started monday, the 23rd of march and will be for three weeks. here is a piece i am working on for the class. it's not nearly done as i know i want to amp up the shading around the objects and i'm thinking i want to add something to the skyline at the top but i'm not sure just what yet. sometimes i just have to lay the things aside and come back to them at a later date. in the meantime i will work on another page.

on a roll

my husband is away this weekend so i had to get up early to take care of the dogs. anyone who knows me knows that i am NOT a morning person so getting up before i wanted to didn't make my morning, but one good thing is that i was able to come downstairs right after and i worked on finishing up another postcard i had started the night before. i'm not sure how much art i can work on today because i have a 50 per cent off coupon for michaels and it's just calling my name.

more postcard fun

well what's that saying, "while the cats away the mice will play"? it seems the family is out and about so i dusted the house but found myself dreaming of art so i dusted quickly and then headed back to the art desk for more postcard making. here is the piece of artwork that manifested itself from that time at play. it's been a good, productive morning so far.

postcard fun

it seems i'm so busy these days making art for swaps, challenges and trades that finding any length of time to just sit and do art for me is a rarity. but last night i decided i needed to just make time for me so i started working on a postcard and then this morning i had the chance to finish it. my goal is to do my best to get a little collection of postcards together that i can make prints of to sell on etsy. this one will be one that will fall into that category.

another transportation postcard

well i had to make another postcard to take the place of the last one for the postcard trade i'm doing. i quite like this one, too, which normally the things i make i don't get attached to, they are just part of creating. i want to keep this one, too, but i won't. i wonder why we get in those moods where we feel like hoarding everything for ourselves. i know that deep down inside i would actually prefer to share but sometimes i just can't do it no matter how hard i try.

giving a gift for my birthday

well yes, it's true, i don't have enough pride to keep me from mentioning it's my birthday today. i am truly a birthday freak and for as long as i can remember i've been one of those annoying people who starts a few months ahead of time announcing my upcoming birthday to anyone who will listen. over the years i've mellowed out some, now i just sing to my family the day before, but i am still in love with my birthday. so in honor of my special day i've decided to give a gift. i am going to give this print away and all you have to do to win it is post a comment. on friday i will put all the names of the people who left a note in a hat and select a winner.
